Simon Beresford announced as new Director of Fundraising and Marketing at DEC

The Disasters Emergency Committee has appointed a new Director of Fundraising & Marketing.  Simon Beresford is taking over from Adil Husseini who, after five years with the DEC, is moving on to run his own consultancy in events management and fundraising. In his role at the DEC, which he takes up at the end of May, Simon will be leading on the continued success of the DEC’s joint appeals and its engagement with supporters as well as expanding DEC’s corporate partnerships.

Simon has over 14 years’ experience in fundraising, marketing and corporate partnerships. He has spent the past four years as Head of Fundraising and Marketing at the Methodist relief and development charity All We Can. In his time with All We Can, Simon established a new fundraising and marketing strategy which delivered sustained growth for the organisation, as well as heading up the fundraising for a number of humanitarian crises. Simon is also a trustee for the national children’s charity Spurgeons, chairing the board subcommittee responsible for the oversight of fundraising and external communications. He is a founder and co-chair of the public fundraising group of Bond, which represents and supports fundraising professionals working across the international development sector in the UK.

Saleh Saeed, CEO of the DEC said:
“I would like to congratulate Simon on his appointment; we are very pleased to welcome Simon to the DEC team. Simon has a track record of great leadership and success in fundraising and partnerships roles and we look forward to him expanding on the success of our appeals which raise much-needed funds for those most severely affected by disasters and conflicts. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank Adil for his tremendous dedication and support to the DEC. During his time with us Adil has grown DEC fundraising and taken it a new level.  He has been a valuable member of the team and we wish him all the best in his next endeavours.”

Speaking of his new appointment, Simon Beresford said:
"It's a privilege to have been appointed Director of Fundraising and Marketing at the DEC. Like many in the fundraising community, I have admired the work of the charity for many years and the inspiring impact their appeals have during times of international humanitarian crises. I look forward to working with our member charities and the generous British public as, together, we continue to raise as much money as possible to save lives and rebuild shattered communities."
