£50 million raised so far, time to hold a fundraising event for DEC East Africa Appeal

Fundraising continues with charity events across the country.

The Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) appeal has raised £50 million. We at the DEC have been inspired by the high number of donations for the East Africa Crisis Appeal. 

The fundraising continues beyond donating to the appeal as people up and down the country turn their attention to how they can raise more funds with charity events.
 
Holding a fundraising event is a great way of raising awareness and increasing donations for the people in Somalia, Ethiopia, the Republic of South Sudan and Kenya who are in real need. We’ve already highlighted on our Facebook page the amazing 180 mile/ 20 hour bicycle fundraising journey William Barsely undertook but we thought you might like to see a couple more examples of what people are doing to raise money for the people of East Africa.
 
The Oxford Comedy Deathmatch, an improv comedy troupe based in Oxford, held a special charity night to raise money. Their unique twist on comedy, in which they create scenes and songs based on audience suggestions, raised over a £100 for the DEC East Africa Crisis Appeal.
 
The Midlands Community Association marked Pakistan’s Independence Day by holding a charity Iftar (Iftar is the meal that Muslim people have when they break fast during Ramadan). The dinner, which was attended by local guests such as councillors and the Member of Parliament, raised £1,230 for the DEC East Africa Crisis Appeal. The event was so successful they’ve decided to hold another fundraising event in early September to mark the end of Ramadan too.
