One million pounds was raised in the five hours following the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) televised appeal for the survivors of the Bangladesh cyclone last night (Thursday 22 November).
Donations flooded in to London’s Telecom Tower after Adrian Chiles presented a moving televised appeal.
Brendan Gormley, Chief Executive of the DEC said: “Once again the British people showed they will not sit by idly and watch suffering on such a scale. This is an excellent start to the fundraising drive – but we need people to keep donating, to save lives and livelihoods.”
The Disasters Emergency Committee agencies are Action Aid, British Red Cross, CAFOD, CARE International UK, Christian Aid, Concern Worldwide, Help the Aged, Islamic Relief, Merlin, Oxfam, Save the Children, Tearfund and World Vision.
